:)

Yay for another great weekend in Chi-town

Lindsy says she wants me to have a bad visit to Chicago sometime…what a strange thing to wish….but Lindsy is strange.  =)

Dude, I went ice skating in Millennium Park, it’s an outdoor ice rink, sort of like they have in New York.  That was so wonderful.  I am not so amazing when it comes to ice skating, which made me less excited about this adventure.  But since it was a little bit of a dream of mine to skate downtown Chicago, with city itself the backdrop, I decided to go for it.  I did much better than I thought I would.  It was only my third time ice skating in my whole life, and I didn’t fall down once.  Their skate rentals are hockey skates instead of figure skates, I think that is what made the difference.  I have weak ankles, but hockey skates have more support, so it was more like roller blading, which I have done many a time.

We also had some Chicago style deep dish pizza at Giordano’s.  It was good.  I think I prefer Gino’s.  And we went to Ed’s for dinner, the diner where the wait staff is rude and they dance on the counters.  Love it.

And I slept in a small, one-bedroom apartment in Lincoln Park, the whole apartment was not much bigger than my bedroom - $890 a month, makes me have less of a desire to move to Chicago.

But it was a way cute apartment, yay for Carrie knowing how to decorate.

And Carrie gave me yogurt, and cheese, and blankets, it was good.

I am going to Chicago twice in March, once in April, and again in May.  Yay for that.  Wow, yay for lots of stuff in this post.

Life Rocks.

Today anyway, that's my attitude.

I am going to Chicago this weekend, I get to go ice skating in Millenium Park.  Very big dream of mine.  Even though I can't ice skate to save my life.  But that's alright, Sarah can't either, so we will be falling together at least.  I also get to stay in the actual city this time.  Which, don't get me wrong, I do love the Bravos like nobody's business, but who can complain about a weekend spent in the city, without an hour train ride?  Nobody, so don't try.

I rearranged my living quarters tonight.  I now have all of my furniture in my bedroom, and I am creating a "sitting room" where my desk and such used to be.  I like this.  I am in my bedroom right now, at my computer desk, in front of my window, and my wireless connection is way stronger, which always makes me smile.

God is good too, I have been learning some sweet stuff from him.  But unfortunately, I have spent too much time talking about life, and now it's past my bedtime.  So, until next time friends, I love you all.  Happy birthday to my brother, Joshy, tomorrow.  I'm headed to Des Moines tomorrow night for dinner with the family for his b-day.  Yay

Doing Something Productive

In the spirit of doing what all my friends are doing...again...here are some random facts about me.

~ I was once in a television show on public access. I played a girl named Rita who was really bad at Algebra.

~ I can't keep my eyes open when I brush my hair.

~ I have been wearing the same toe ring since my senior year of high school.

~ I was in Girl Scouts until 7th grade. Our code name for it in middle school was "SFG - Scouts For Girls". This was so no one would know we were actually still in Girl Scouts.

~ I know how to change my own oil…I’ve never done it…but I know how.

~ My fingers get cold every time I type.

~ I have become addicted to playing “Madden” even though I suck at it.

~ My grandmother has great-great-grandchildren.

~ I talk to myself a lot, in different accents.

~ I openly admit to this.

~ I don’t separate my lights and darks.

~ I eat more than one French fry at a time, but only ones that are the same length.

~ I love green beans.  I can eat them straight out of the can, without even warming them up.

That’s the best I have for now. Maybe I’ll have a second addition if I come up with more interesting factoids.

Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With Strings...

Today marks a momentous occasion,.  Well, two actually.
1) I am blogging about my life.
2) I saw “The Sound of Music” for the first time in my whole life.

Tonight, I babysat for my all-time favorite Handicare children, and it was a sweet night, let me tell you.  A night full of singing (a song that goes like this: “So long, farewell, I need to go potty.”) and bowel movements.  Yes, I love those kids.

Also, a lot of interesting things have been going on in the world of the Mars Hill churchsters.  All of which accumulated into a short-notice leaders’ meeting Wednesday night.  The meeting was really good, and got me thinking a lot about my relationship with God, and how seriously I take it, along with how seriously I take the tasks that God has put in front of me.  Dan gave an analogy that hit me pretty hard.  He said the way he pictured Mars Hill church right now, was sort of like a scene from “Saving Private Ryan”.  There are explosions, fighting, and death all around us, and we are in the middle of it all, building sand castles, and having a great time.  Meanwhile, we are oblivious to the extent of the battles surrounding us.  I can actually see that in my own life right now, only I imagine that I have been committed enough to the battle, that I am fully equipped for it, except that instead of using my equipment to fight, I am finding cool ways to build it into the sand castle.

I started taking my times with God much more seriously.  I want to learn  from them, I want to  grow  from them, I don’t just want to get them done.  I’ve been doing a Bible study with Sarah.  It’s a cool Bible study, I’m learning a ton of stuff, and seeing it hit my own life.  But I wasn’t feeling like it was equipping me for the battle at hand, so I decided to include a little extra-curricular reading (gasp).  I have started reading through the book of Luke, and wow, I haven’t read any of the gospels all the way through since I read the whole Bible my freshman year at ISU.  Luke is some good stuff.  I really think God has a whole relationship-altering lesson in mind with my reading of Luke, but I’m still piecing it all together.  Here are a few verses that have stuck out to me individually lately.

Luke 5:16 (referring to Jesus’ ministry as it was first really taking off)
But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.

Dude, he didn’t just go there because his church was having a prayer meeting, or because he had read his Bible too quickly and wanted to stretch out his quiet time.  He just prayed, because he knew what battle he was fighting, and he knew he wanted to be equipped for it.

Luke 7:35
Wisdom is shown to be right by the lives of those who follow it.

Yeah, I just liked that one.

Anyway, that’s my life and thoughts.  I shared them.  My blog is not dead yet.
