New Experience

This past summer, in New Orleans, I finally grabbed ahold of an opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do.

Our community room was always chalk-full of guitars, and a ton of the people down there played the guitar.  So I decided to learn how to play.  I didn't get the chance to learn this until the last couple of weeks of the summer, so I think I got in about an hour total of instruction on what I was doing.  But I liked it.  So I've been trying to keep it up.

Back in Iowa City, my roommate, Laura, has a guitar she's not using too regularly.  So I have borrowed it for the time being.  I've been taking time as often as possible to play around and practice some chords, learn some new ones.  You know, attempt to get good at it.

Well, last night, I went to church early to hang out with the music people.  They get together before house church every Sunday evening to practice.  Jonathan told me this would be a good way to learn some more stuff about playing the guitar.  What Jonathan didn't mention was that he would probably make me play at church if I showed up.  So I showed up yesterday, guitar in hand, ready to learn some stuff from some guys who know what they're doing.

I ended up playing at church.  It was actually surprisingly fun.  I'm excited that I am a part of a small church that encourages this sort of thing.  I'm not good.  Don't worry.  I'm not some sort of naturally amazing musician who just learned and can lead worship now.  But Jonathan did a great job of helping me know what to do and how, and there were enough people playing that I didn't stick out when I didn't play well.  And I had a really good time.  I'm all about doing this every week now.  Someday, dude, I am going to be good at this.

Giving Photos a Shot

I am now attempting to add photos into my blog.  In case it doens't work, there are two new photos in my album.  You can see them there.

But here's my attempt.

This is a picture of New Orleans from high above the earth.

OOOO, fun.

And this is a close-up shot of our "Compound"

I feel smart.  You can even click on these to make them bigger and easier to see.  If you find yourself that curious.  Which you should. :)

Hey, this is important

I have a new phone number.  If you want it, comment me, and I'll get it to you.

I won't be offended if you don't ask for it.  Don't worry.

Two Topics in One Entry

How the current Evolution vs ID debate will effect the confidents (I believe this to be the word "confidence") of today's youths as they grow up in a world fraught with division.

I think the topic itself answers the question...?...

Dude…I am so not this kind of blogger….

Rhode Island – Neither a road nor an island….

My mind went on a long tangent as I tried to respond to this.  It came to a stop at Jack Handey, and one of my favorite Deep Thoughts ever:
"Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind."

Penguins

Hey!  You guys stole the penguins thing from my blog layout!  How uncreative!

Anyway, I love penguins.  They are so fun to watch.  Similar to ducks, it baffles me that they don't tip over when they walk.

Right now, I am thinking about the movie "Madagascar" and how the penguins are always talking to the zebra and calling him "My monochramatic friend".  And do you know how this connects with anything?  I have two blogs, the other is at MySpace.  I asked for topic ideas on my other blog, also, and someone told me to blog about zebras (and cheese).  All sorts of black and white topic requests! How ironic!

Speaking of irony, the other day, I overheard someone giving someone else an email address, and the email address was at writeitdown.org.  I was intrigued.  So I checked out this website.  Here is a tidbit from the homepage of writeitdown.org.

"The Society for the Preservation of the Written Word was founded to preserve and continue the grand tradition of correspondence and the creative writing process through the use of pen and paper. Our mission is to encourage correspondence through traditional methods, utilizing paper and pen, or similar devices."

Does anyone else find it ironic that as a member of this society, you can get an email address?

Presuppositionalism

Presuppositionalism may be defined as insistence on an ultimate category of thought or a conceptual framework which one must assume in order to make a sensible interpretation of reality:

Once upon a time, there was a boy.  His name was Presuppositionalism.  He went to a really fun school where there was a huge, glorious playground.  He loved recess, when he could go outside and run, and swing, and slide, and climb, and everything a young boy could dream of.  He had a friend who lived next door to him.  His friend went to a different school.  His school had a tetherball pole, with no ball.  That was it.

One day, Presuppositionalism and his friend, Tom, got into a huge argument over whether or not recess was the coolest part of the day.  Tom thought recess was boring, and preferred gym class.  Presup just could not understand why someone would rather go to gym class than recess.

They never quite saw eye to eye.  And that was sad.

Writer's Block

I want to blog so badly.  I just can't seem to think of anything to blog about.

 Give me a topic.

What do you want to know my thoughts on?
